Community
Ensuring that both travelers and local communities benefit from tourism.

Caring for People:

In every way possible, we strive to support and benefit the people of French Polynesia, forming meaningful relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders across the islands in order to bring good to local communities and travelers alike.

Events-Sustainability

Events

Throughout each year, the InterContinental Tahiti Resort & Spa takes part in local events including Earth Day, Earth Hour, Ocean Day, World Ocean Clean Up Day and blood donation drives as we support island initiatives that share our values around community and sustainability. Through awareness campaigns, we invite not only staff but also guests to join in these efforts.

Partnerships

Our school has a number of partnerships with local sports, cultural and environmental associations, such as AS Tefana soccer for young people in Faaa, TEDxPapeete, and Répar’acteurs de Tata’i.

Local economic support

To encourage skilled local artisans to continue keeping island traditions alive, we purchasing their handicrafts, including coconut frond baskets, traditional tifaifai bedspreads and vibrant painted pareos.

Our location on the country’s main island allows for more integration with welcome associations and NGOs that share our work and values.

In support of our commitment to celebrate island businesses and artisans, we prioritize sourcing our supplies and ingredients as locally as possible, including from our staff’s family farms and shops.

Education

We bring local students to visit the resort to learn about sustainability firsthand while also introducing environmental awareness programs to their schools.
